First, the Law was given to reveal the holiness of God. In 1 Peter 1:15–16 Peter wrote, “But just as He who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written: ‘Be holy, because I am holy.’” The fact that God is a holy God was made very clear to Israel in the Law of Moses. Perhaps the primary function of the Law was to educate the people concerning the character of the God who had redeemed them from Egypt.
